DEVLOG 13 / Character & Drone

Merge: When Character and Drone Become One

Merge is one of the biggest combat decisions available to a Character in Starforged Ascendant.

Merge is one of the biggest combat decisions available to a Character in Starforged Ascendant.

Your Drone Chassis determines which Merge you can use, and every Merge has a 120-second charge recovery.

When that button is ready, you are holding onto a major answer for the next difficult moment. Triggering both the Merge ability and the drones Chassis ability (regardless of skills current charge or energy).

Each Merge lasts for a short combat window and leans into a particular style, amplifying your build to handle different encounters.

Bastion Ascendance reinforces defence and area control

Bastion Ascendance

Bastion Ascendance is built for moments when staying alive and controlling space matters most.

For 18 seconds, the Character takes 25% less damage.

The Merge also adds temporary Maximum Shield equal to 50% of the Character's normal Maximum Shield, and adds the same amount to current Shield when it begins.

While Bastion is active, it releases a shockwave every second, with a final pulse firing when the temporary Shield effect ends.

The linked Drone rocket system also continues contributing to the fight, giving the merged Character defensive strength coupled with consistent AoE damage.

Bastion can rescue a fragile ranged build when enemies collapse onto its position, let a frontline build commit even harder when a capture point is under pressure, effectively clearing out waves while holding ground, or simply help you deal with a boss mechanic your build might typically be to squishy to deal with.

Reconstruction Ascendance combines recovery and additional Drone presence

Reconstruction Ascendance

Reconstruction Ascendance creates a 20-second recovery and Drone-multiplication window.

A consistent recovery pulses fire throughout the Merge, healing all friendly targets in range.

An additional Mirage Drone is created for the same 20-second period, using the captured Drone Weapon configuration from the activation.

That means the extra Drone reflects the setup you already chose.

  • A Drone Weapon focused on damage adds more pressure and sustained dps.
  • A Drone weapon providing additional recovery, leans into the Merge even further, allowing the player to deal with large consistent rot damage profiles.
  • A Drone weapon that provides stun, root or knockdown, can easily help recover, reposition and contol the fight.

During reconstruction excess Health recovery will also flow directly into Shield, letting successful recovery continue contributing even when Health is already full.

It gives a damage-oriented Character a powerful sustain option and gives support builds a period where their contribution expands across the fight.

Overdrive Relay accelerates movement and Skill tempo

Overdrive Relay

Overdrive Relay is the high-tempo option.

It affects the Character, Drone and nearby friendlies for 20 seconds.

Successful hits restore a flat amount of Health and Shield.

For those 20 seconds, the group can move faster, activate Skills faster and cycle through available charges at a much higher rate.

Overdrive can turn a coordinated push into a flood of Skills.

Three Merge abilities answer different combat situations

A major answer, not a fixed role

The strength of Merge comes from how it sits on top of the rest of the build.

  • A ranged damage Character can still take Bastion because sometimes the problem is surviving.
  • A heavily offensive setup can carry Reconstruction because some encounters demand recovery.
  • A support-oriented Character can use Overdrive when the group needs immediate momentum.

The Drone Chassis decides which answer you carry. Your Artefacts, Power Cores, Talents, Stats and Drone configuration decide what you do with the window once it opens.

A two-minute recovery makes that choice matter.

When the fight reaches its breaking point, Merge is how you push through it.
